each year it seems like there are being fewer and fewer fatality from drunk drivers like in 2007 there were 13041 in 2007 and in 2008 it went down about 9.8 percent so even though this number is still really high we are doing a little bit to get this number to go down. cops are putting up stops to check unpeople who drive down certain streets witch is making things better. sense M.A.D.D. has stepd in in 1980 the numbers have gone down over 50 percent.
another thing i found on M.A.D.D. was that every 45 min some one is killed by a drunk driver this is another crazy fact that is hard to be leave because i mean you are never safe from a drunk driver most people are like o i don't like to drive at night because thats when all the drunks are out but thats no true even during the day there are drunks driving im not saying that you are more likely to get hit in the day then at night but you are still not safe from them it also says that in 2008 that 11773 people died because of a drunk driver.
how can we decrease these numbers?

On M.A.D.D it talks about how 50 to 75 percent of people who get caught drinking and driving keep driving even though there licenses has been suspended.this is a huge problem because the punish they are receiving is not good enough they keep getting in cars even though they don't have a licenses i think that the punish should be a lot more severe because you are endangering every one around you, you can kill people.
we need to find a way to prevent make it so those people who get caught cant drive.

In california it has the strongest penalty for under age drinking it says in this article that any one with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.01 will be charged with a DUI and will be taken to jail it also tells you how much you would have to drink to get to a BAC of 0.01 One 12-ounce beer One 4-ounce glass of wine one 1.25 ounce of liquor
why take the risk?
why would they tell you how much you can drink when your not suppose to?

Here is another post that talks about what could happen to some who is under the age and under the influence it says on this web site that if you are caught you could lose your license for up to two years and put in jail for a year on top of all that you could be fined an an additional 2 500 dollars I think that to have to go threw all of this is way just for one time o fun is definitely not worth that much.
is it really worth it to risk that much?

I was reading threw another article that told me the average percent of kids under age that drink in 30 days 45 percent drank some alcohol, while 25 percent binge drank. Eleven percent drove after drinking alcohol and 29 percent rode with another driver who had been drinking alcohol. another thing i found was how much alcohol is consumed by minors it says that 11 percent of alcohol consumed in the united state is minors.
how do kids get alcohol so easily?
why not say no if you have to drive home?
why not have a designated driver?

In the article i was reading, it talks about the statistics and the fatalities and it says "In the United States, 12.8% of all fatal traffic crashes were alcohol-related, and 40% of that number involved teens driving while drinking alcohol." this struck me because I never knew it was that big of a deal I also looked up the fatalities in other countries.
Country | Deaths/100k Vehicles (1998) |
S. Korea | 80.33 |
Turkey | 76.75 |
Poland | 55.71 |
Portugal | 35.02 |
France | 30.24 |
Denmark | 21.44 |
USA | 19.97 |
Iceland | 16.87 |
Italy | 16.71 |
Canada | 16.65 |
Germany | 15.71 |
UK | 12.73 |
Sweden | 11.81 |
This was a huge shock to me to because it was crazy to think of how manny people die because the decide to to take a cab home.
why not spend money on a safe ride home when you spend money to drink?

Under Age Drinking and Driving
We picked to focus on this topic because it is a huge huge problem in San Diego and all other cities and sense I am a minor driving it worry me when i drive at night. I would also want to learn more on the statistics of underage drinking and driving. I also want to show people in the community that this is a huge problem to them selves and others if they drink and drive.
Our Question we are researching on is. Why do Teenagers Drink and Drive? and How Can We Prevent It?
